Afrobeats superstar Davido has honoured the legacy of late Nigerian music icon Sound Sultan in the official music video of his trending single, 10 Kilo.
Directed by Director Pink, the colourful visuals feature captivating scenes of plus-size models dancing in front of a large banner displaying Sound Sultan’s picture a heartfelt nod to the legendary singer.
10 Kilo, which celebrates plus-size women, draws inspiration from Sound Sultan’s classic hit “Orobo”, a track that similarly praised curvy women. The original Orobo was a fan favourite across Nigeria and West Africa, and in 2013, Sound Sultan released a hit remix featuring Flavour, which dominated the airwaves.
Since Sound Sultan’s passing in July 2021 after a battle with cancer, several Nigerian music heavyweights including 2Baba, Burna Boy, Spyro, Sean Tizzle, and many others have paid tribute to his enduring influence on the Afrobeats scene.
Widely celebrated as one of the pioneers of modern Afrobeats, Sound Sultan blessed the industry with timeless hits such as Jagabantis, Natural Something, Ole, Kokose, Orobo, and Very Good Bad Guy. His artistry not only entertained millions but also helped shape the sound of a generation.
Davido’s homage in 10 Kilo serves as a reminder of Sound Sultan’s unmatched contribution to Nigerian music and his lasting impact on today’s Afrobeats culture.
