In a growing political tension within the All Progressives Congress (APC), a support group, Grassroots Movement for Tinubu (GMT), has accused unknown individuals of destroying campaign billboards promoting the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ondo State.
The billboards, strategically placed along the Airport Road to Oba-Ile corridor in Akure, were reportedly vandalized in what GMT described as a “deliberate and malicious” act.
According to Oyewamide Ojo, GMT’s Director of Media and Publicity, the incident is linked to an ongoing rift between independent campaign groups supporting Tinubu and Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
The disagreement intensified after Aiyedatiwa issued a directive that all pro-Tinubu groups must operate under a single platform named “Ondo for Tinubu 2027” a move GMT publicly opposed.
“This act of vandalism is an assault on democracy, a slap on free speech, and a calculated attempt to erase the truth of the progress Nigeria is experiencing under President Tinubu,” Ojo stated.
The political atmosphere in Ondo is heating up as the 2027 elections approach, raising concerns over unity within the ruling APC and the safety of campaign materials.
