A Nigerian job seeker has amused social media users with a lighthearted account of how a failed job interview unexpectedly turned into a free lunch.
The man, identified on X (formerly Twitter) as @Omolomo_o, explained that he had attended a job interview that quickly began to go downhill. Realizing his chances of getting the role were slim, he decided to find a silver lining when the interviewer walked in with a takeaway meal.
According to him, the boss, out of courtesy, invited everyone in the room to share the food. Without hesitation, he washed his hands and joined in, helping himself to the plate of amala and ewedu.
“I remember going for a job interview. The boss walked in with food in a takeaway pack and, out of courtesy, said, ‘Come and eat’ to everyone. I stood up, washed my hands, and joined him to eat the amala he bought. He let me eat, but I knew that was my first and last day there. I saw how the interview was going, I had no chance of getting employed, and I came on an empty stomach. I can’t lose both ways, please,” he recounted.
His humorous confession has since gone viral, with many social media users applauding his honesty and ability to find humor in disappointment. Some even joked that while he didn’t get the job, at least he left the interview “well-fed and happy.”
