Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), has refuted allegations that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is being used by the APC-led Federal Government to persecute opposition figures.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Thursday, Olumide-Fusika maintained that the EFCC’s mandate remains the fight against corruption regardless of political affiliation.

“The EFCC is targeting corruption, not political parties. It doesn’t matter whether the person is in the ADC, APC, or any other party,” he stated.

The senior lawyer noted that Nigerians have long demanded the anti-graft agency focus on real financial crimes instead of internet fraud scams perpetrated by “Yahoo boys.” According to him, when the EFCC goes after high-profile individuals like Waziri Tambuwal, it is because there is evidence worth investigating.

Olumide-Fusika further stressed that both ruling party members and opposition politicians have faced EFCC prosecution, proving that the agency’s scope is broad and not politically selective.

“If you believe you are being witch-hunted, the court is there. Evidence will show whether or not you committed the offence. Judges are not targeting you  they decide based on facts,” he added.

This position comes amid ongoing public debates about whether the EFCC’s recent high-profile arrests are politically motivated or part of a genuine anti-corruption drive.

Key Takeaway:
Olumide-Fusika’s remarks serve as a reminder that corruption knows no political boundary  and neither should the fight against it.
