Former President Muhammadu Buhari has called upon political leaders to place the well-being of the populace above personal gain, underscoring the importance of accountability and dedicated service.
In his Kaduna residence, during a visit from governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Buhari asserted, "I departed office with the same material possessions I possessed upon assuming it." He advised the governors to adopt a people-centric governance style, stating, “Leadership presents both a formidable challenge and a significant opportunity. Harmonizing these aspects will substantially propel national development.”
Buhari commended the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) for their endeavors and expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu’s administration for the refurbishment of his Kaduna home. "While the exterior remains unchanged, the interior has undergone considerable enhancement," he remarked. He also conveyed his gratitude for the visit, noting his prior collaborations with some governors and his first-time meeting with others.
Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the PGF and Governor of Imo State, explained that the visit was to commemorate Eid-el-Fitr and to honor Buhari. "We express our profound gratitude and unwavering respect for your vast contributions to Nigeria's democratic journey and the fortification of our party," he stated in a release by Buhari’s former media aide, Garba Shehu.
Uzodimma further added, “Many of us fondly recall the principled role you played in establishing the APC. That legacy continues to define our party's character.”
He also emphasized Buhari’s landmark electoral triumph: “You stand as the sole opposition candidate to have unseated a sitting president. You not only secured power, but you also governed with composed determination and transferred it, with dignity, to another APC president.”
He lauded Buhari’s accomplishments in security, anti-corruption, and social welfare, noting, "You instilled in us the principle of self-sufficiency in food production." Regarding Buhari’s recent endorsement of Tinubu, he stated, “It served as a potent symbol of continuity and humility.”
