Senate President Godswill Akpabio has finally reacted to swirling social media rumours about his alleged ill health, firmly dismissing the claims and assuring Nigerians that he remains in good shape.
The speculation began after journalist Jackson Ude claimed in a social media post that the Senate President was sick while in London, United Kingdom.
However, speaking when Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, visited him in London, Akpabio downplayed the report, saying reacting to every social media claim would be like “going to war.”
“If you listen to the social media, you will go to war,” Akpabio remarked.
According to a statement by Jackson Udom, Akpabio’s Special Assistant on Media, Daniel’s visit was partly to brief the Senate President on the upcoming August 16 bye-election in Ogun State’s Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency. The seat became vacant following the death of Hon. Onanuga.
Daniel expressed relief upon seeing Akpabio in good health.
“The news out there is that you have been indisposed, but seeing you here now paints a very different picture. Congratulations, Your Excellency,” Daniel said.
Akpabio, in turn, praised Daniel’s commitment and expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would retain the seat, citing the strong backing of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and other party stakeholders.
“Let me congratulate you in advance because you have all it takes to retain that federal constituency seat for our great party,” Akpabio stated.
