Human rights lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, has fiercely accused the Nigeria Police Force of lying about the treatment of former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore while in custody.
The controversy erupted after viral photos showed Sowore with his arm in a bandage. Reports indicated he was being investigated over alleged cyberstalking.
On Friday night, the police issued a statement denying any torture, claiming the image was “mischievously presented to mislead the public and stir unwarranted outrage.”
However, Adeyanju took to his official Facebook page to reject the police statement, calling it false.
“You are a liar. The Nigeria police headed by the illegal IGP Egbetokun, the most useless IG in the history of the NPF, tortured SOWORE and broke his hands. And you will all pay for your crimes,” Adeyanju wrote.
This development has sparked fresh debates on alleged police brutality in Nigeria, with many demanding an independent investigation into the matter.
Key Takeaway:
The incident has intensified public scrutiny of the Nigeria Police Force, reviving concerns about human rights abuses and the treatment of detainees in the country.
