Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has confidently declared that no political party aside from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stands a chance of winning in the state—now or in the future.
This bold statement came during the official campaign flag-off for the PDP candidate, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, ahead of the August 16, 2025 by-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
Speaking at Bodija Market, Ibadan, Governor Makinde described Oyekunle as a "tested and trusted politician" with a proven track record of service both as a former member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and as Deputy Chief of Staff in his administration.
“This forthcoming election is very important because we must prove once again that Oyo State is a PDP state,” Makinde said.
“When you campaign from ward to ward and someone tells you another party can win here, tell them it’s impossible. PDP remains the only winning party in Oyo.”
Makinde emphasized that Oyekunle’s experience and past achievements make him the right candidate to bring quality representation and meaningful development to the constituency in the National Assembly.
He urged residents of Ibadan North to come out en masse and cast their votes for the PDP on August 16, stating that a victory would be a testament to the party’s continued dominance in the state.
The campaign flag-off witnessed a large turnout of supporters, party faithful, and key stakeholders including:
Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal
Former Deputy Governor Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarunmi
State lawmakers Hon. Adebayo Babajide and Hon. Olufunke Comforter
Deputy Chief of Staff Hon. Adeniyi Kazeem Bibire
PDP State Secretary Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke
The event was described as a massive show of strength for the PDP as it gears up for the crucial by-election and eyes long-term dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
