Heat stroke, also known as sunstroke occurs when the body's temperature regulation system is overloaded, causing the body temperature to rise rapidly. This can happen when the body is exposed to high temperatures, humidity, and physical activity, making it difficult for the body to cool itself.

Other triggers include: prolonged exposure to high temperatures and humidity, physical activity in hot weather, wearing heavy or dark clothing, dehydration, and certain medical conditions, such as heart disease or diabetes

The symptoms usually include:

-Body temperature above 104°F (40°C)

-Confusion, agitation, or loss of consciousness

-Seizures or coma

-Dry, flushed skin with no sweating

-Rapid heartbeat

-Shallow breathing

There are several ways to prevent heat stroke; a key way is to stay hydrated. Individuals can adopt habits such as

1. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water per day, and more if physically active or live in a hot climate.

2. Consuming electrolyte-rich drinks, such as coconut water, sports drinks, or fruit juices, to help replace lost electrolytes.

3. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol: Both caffeine and alcohol can act as diuretics, leading to dehydration and increasing the risk of heat stroke.

4. Take regular breaks: If you're physically active or working outdoors, take regular breaks in a cool, shaded area to rest and rehydrate.

5. Monitor body temperature: Pay attention to your body's temperature and take action if you start to feel overheated. Remove excess clothing, seek shade, and drink cool water to help lower your body temperature.

Here are some additional tips to prevent heat stroke:

-Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing

-Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day (usually between 11am and 3pm)

-Use a fan or air conditioner to stay cool

-Check on vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly or young children, to ensure they're staying cool and hydrated

Even though the weather conditions are hot at the moment, it's advisable to take steps to avoid experiencing heat stress and causing any harm to the body.
