A man has been charged with murder after allegedly fatally shooting the administrator of a community WhatsApp group, following his removal from the chat. The incident took place on Thursday evening, March 6, in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province bordering Afghanistan known for its history of sectarian violence.
According to police reports obtained by AFP, Mushtaq Ahmed, the group admin, was shot dead after an argument with a man identified only as Ashfaq, who had been removed from the WhatsApp group. Ashfaq has been charged with Mushtaq’s murder.
Mushtaq's brother, in a statement to AFP, explained that the two men had planned to meet and resolve their differences. However, Ashfaq reportedly arrived with a firearm and opened fire, killing Mushtaq.
The shooting is believed to have been a direct reaction to Ashfaq’s removal from the WhatsApp group, according to the police statement.
This tragic incident highlights the increasingly violent consequences of online interactions and the real-world dangers of digital conflicts.
