Pastor David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has sparked controversy with his statement that Jesus Christ hated poverty and deliberately avoided visiting poor people's homes during his time on earth. According to Ibiyeomie, Jesus' mission went beyond salvation and included deliverance from poverty.

Ibiyeomie referenced biblical accounts, claiming that Jesus visited wealthy individuals like Zacchaeus but never entered the homes of poor people. He argued that this demonstrates Jesus' disdain for poverty and that Christians should not remain in poverty after embracing their faith.

"You can come poor but you're not permitted to remain poor," Ibiyeomie said. “Nothing wrong with you coming to Christ as a poor man, but it's wrong for you to remain poor. It is wrong.”

Ibiyeomie's comments have generated significant attention and debate.
