Michelle Obama Shuts Down Divorce Rumors

Michelle Obama has officially put an end to the swirling rumors about a potential divorce from former President Barack Obama. In a recent episode of Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast, the former First Lady opened up about her decisions to skip high-profile political events—choices that fueled speculation about her marriage.

Why Michelle Skipped Jimmy Carter’s Funeral and Trump’s Inauguration

Michelle explained that her absence from President Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s inauguration were personal decisions—not signs of marital trouble.

"People couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume my husband and I are divorcing," she said. "That this couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right?"

She criticized societal expectations that often label women’s independent choices as "negative and horrible."

 Barack Obama’s "Deep Deficit" Comment

Last week, Barack Obama admitted to being in a "deep deficit" with Michelle, further fueling rumors. However, Michelle clarified that her choices were about prioritizing her own needs—not reflecting marital strife.

"We as women struggle with disappointing people," she said. "But now is the time for me to start asking myself: Who do I truly want to be every day?"

Michelle’s Focus on Her Next Chapter

At 61, Michelle is reflecting on how she wants to spend her later years. While she remains active in advocacy—particularly girls’ education—she’s also setting boundaries.

"I still find time to give speeches, work on projects, and support the Obama Presidential Library," she said. "But when I say no, people respect it."

The library, set to open on Chicago’s South Side in a year, is a major focus—but Michelle is careful about her level of involvement.

Final Thoughts: Empowerment Over Assumptions

Michelle’s message is clear: Women should feel empowered to make choices without fearing judgment.

"Society has its stereotypes, but we have to live for ourselves,"she said.
