ZARIA, KADUNA STATE — Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday, August 11, 2025, when a fuel tanker explosion claimed multiple lives in Dan Magaji, Zaria, along the busy Kaduna–Kano Expressway.
According to eyewitness reports, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m., near the Rochas Foundation School on the bypass from Kwangila to Dan Magaji. The crash involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Volkswagen Golf cars, resulting in a catastrophic chain of five loud explosions.
The massive blasts triggered a huge fireball and thick black smoke that engulfed the highway, leaving commuters and residents in shock.
“All the occupants of the cars died instantly, except one driver who survived but suffered severe burns,” an eyewitness recounted.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the details via his X (formerly Twitter) handle, noting the scale of destruction. Emergency services and security operatives have since cordoned off the area, advising motorists to use alternative routes while rescue and recovery operations continue.
