Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has dismissed rumors suggesting he is preparing to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. In a statement released by his Media Director, Michael Ohiare, Bello described the claims as baseless and misleading.
Misinformation from Old Rally Footage
The controversy stemmed from a recycled video of Bello’s 2022 political rally, which some social media users falsely presented as new. The statement emphasized that the banners in the video clearly displayed 2022 dates, debunking claims of a fresh campaign.
Ohiare labeled the post as a "senseless fabrication" by mischief-makers aiming to create unnecessary tension between Bello and President Tinubu. He reiterated that Bello remains a staunch supporter of the current administration and has no intention of running against Tinubu in 2027.
Bello’s Unwavering Support for Tinubu’s
The statement further highlighted Bello’s confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, citing the administration’s achievements despite global economic challenges.
“The indices cannot lie. The President and his team have done exceedingly well for the country. On merit, he deserves the support of well-meaning Nigerians,” Ohiare stated.
A Pattern of False Narratives
This is not the first time detractors have attempted to pit Bello against Tinubu. Ohiare accused certain individuals of persistently spreading falsehoods in a "bring-him-down-at-all-costs" mission, which has repeatedly failed.
He urged Nigerians to disregard such misleading posts, describing them as desperate attempts to "create crisis where there is none."
Final Word
Yahaya Bello’s camp remains focused on supporting the Tinubu administration and has no interest in a 2027 presidential bid. The recycled rally footage is nothing more than a failed attempt to stir controversy.
