Natasha Osawaru, the partner of Nigerian music star 2Face, has been removed as the Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly. This decision follows a shift in legislative power after four Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), granting the APC a new majority in the house.
Osawaru, representing the Egor constituency under the PDP, lost her position due to the party's loss of majority status. The defections led to a leadership shake-up, also affecting Charity Aiguobarueghian, the former Majority Leader, and Yekini Idaiye, the former Chief Whip.
The APC has appointed new leaders:
- Majority Leader: Ibhamawu Aigbokhan (Esan West)
- Deputy Leader: Addeh Isibor (Esan North-East I)
- Chief Whip: Lecky Hussein Mustapha (Etsako West I)
Despite the changes, PDP's Blessing Agbebaku and Maria Edeko retained their roles as Speaker and Deputy Speaker, respectively. However, their positions may be subject to review.
Osawaru's removal comes amid her high-profile relationship with 2Face, who announced his separation from Annie Idibia in January and confirmed his relationship with Osawaru. The music icon proposed to her in February, and she recently updated her Instagram bio to reflect his surname.
