Rivers State women staged a massive protest in Port Harcourt, demanding the immediate reinstatement of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Thousands of women marched peacefully, chanting slogans like "Bring back Fubara!" and "Pharaoh, let my people go!" while holding placards and singing solidarity songs. They expressed deep concern over the creeping state of emergency and erosion of democratic governance in the state.
The protesters described the current situation as a power grab, emphasizing that the suspension of Governor Fubara has sparked widespread outrage and fears of undemocratic rule. One protester noted, “This is not just about Fubara; it's about protecting our votes and our voices. We are tired of the oppression. Democracy must be respected!”
The women appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reverse the emergency rule, lift the suspension on Governor Fubara, and reinstate all democratic institutions in the state. They condemned the unconstitutional imposition of what they termed "military rule disguised as a state of emergency," calling it unjustified and unacceptable.
