Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has led a high-powered delegation to Edo State to investigate the recent killings of 16 Kano indigenes in Uromi. The delegation aims to interface with the Hausa/Fulani community in Edo to evaluate the situation that led to the attack on 27 hunters traveling from Rivers to Kano.
The incident, which occurred last month, has heightened tensions in the affected community. In response, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, led a condolence visit to Tarankawa village, Bunkure Local Government Area, where the victims' families reside. The Kano State Government has sought adequate compensation and justice for the relatives of the victims.
The delegation includes prominent officials, such as the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar; Commissioners for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Duties, and Women Affairs; and the Chairman of Bunkure Local Government Area.
Before departing, Deputy Governor Gwarzo reiterated the committee's commitment to justice, peace, and reconciliation. The delegation's objectives include investigating the incident, consulting with stakeholders, and recommending sustainable solutions to prevent further violence and promote peace in the affected community.
This fact-finding mission forms part of a broader intervention by the Northern Governors Forum to demonstrate solidarity, promote national unity, and respond proactively to rising insecurity across the country. The committee's findings and recommendations are expected to contribute to the development of strategies for addressing insecurity in the region.
