A two-day recall process is underway across the Kogi Central senatorial district's five local government areas (LGAs). Residents are signing petitions addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), requesting the recall of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. INEC will verify the signatures against the voter registry before proceeding.
Community leaders initiated the recall, citing repeated attempts to engage Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, which they claim were met with disrespect and indifference.
Signature collection is currently active in Okehi, Okene, Ajaokuta, and Ogori/Magongo LGAs. Adavi LGA's exercise is scheduled for Thursday. Turnout was high in Okene, Okehi, and Ajaokuta, but low in Ogori/Magongo.
Prior to the recall, the "Good People of Kogi Central," led by Hon. Abdulrahman Badamasuiy, cautioned residents against providing voter card information or signing any forms, alleging a plot to recall the "performing" Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. They urged vigilance against those with "sinister motives." Badamasuiy, a PDP chieftain and Akpoti-Uduaghan's campaign DG, specifically warned against participating in what he described as a ploy to recall the senator.
