Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has imposed a 24-hour curfew in two local government areas due to an ongoing violent clash between the Ifon and Ilobu communities. The dispute, reportedly over land ownership, has led to killings, destruction, and displacement of women and children.
Initially, a dusk-to-dawn curfew was imposed, and traditional rulers were summoned for a peace meeting. However, following the burning of hundreds of houses, the curfew has been extended to Erin-Osun town and upgraded to a 24-hour restriction.
Key Developments:
- Three Killed, 30 Injured: On Friday, three people, including a former councillor, were killed, and 30 others sustained gunshot wounds.
- Curfew Enforcement: All security agencies, including the Military, Police, NSCDC, Immigration, NDLEA, and Amotekun, have been ordered to enforce strict compliance with the curfew.
- Peace Efforts: Governor Adeleke has summoned traditional rulers for a peace meeting, and the state government is working to restore peace and order.
According to Osun's Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, "The curfew is necessary to prevent further escalation and maintain law and order." It will remain in effect until peace is fully restored.
