Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has made a shocking allegation that Nigerian security officials are planning to arrest her as soon as she returns to Nigeria. In a recent interview with Premium Times, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan linked the move to her participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) meeting in New York on March 11, where she spoke out against her suspension from the Senate and made sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
This comes after Nigerian security agencies launched an investigation into how she attended the IPU meeting without official nomination.
At the IPU meeting, Akpoti-Uduaghan narrated her suspension from the Senate, alleging it was politically motivated to silence her. IPU President Tulia Ackson responded by saying the parliamentary body would investigate the matter while allowing the Nigerian Senate to present its side of the story.
However, Nigerian delegate Kafilat Ogbara countered Akpoti-Uduaghan's claims, stating that her suspension was due to violations of Senate Standing Rules during plenary sessions, not because of her allegations against Akpabio .
Akpoti-Uduaghan also alleged that the Senate President sent officials to forcibly remove her from the United Nations premises during the IPU meeting, but she was rescued by parliamentarians from other countries and security personnel .
