The House of Representatives has issued a stern warning to Rivers State's Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas, cautioning him against making laws or assuming the responsibilities of the State Assembly. This warning comes after Ibas announced plans to develop a new budget for the state.

The controversy began when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State in March, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the state legislature for six months. Ibas was appointed as the Sole Administrator to oversee state affairs during this period.

Deputy Spokesman Philip Agbese emphasized that Ibas lacks the constitutional authority to make laws or draft a budget for the state. The House is consulting to establish a committee to monitor Ibas' activities, ensuring the interests of Rivers State are represented.

Agbese warned that if Ibas exceeds his authority, the House will take necessary actions, including a possible vote of no confidence, to ensure accountability and adherence to the rule of law.

Ibas' Plans

Despite the warning, Ibas has expressed commitment to the people of Rivers State, outlining plans for a new budget focusing on healthcare, education, social services, and infrastructure development. The budget aims to prioritize job creation and investments in key sectors like agriculture, technology, and public infrastructure.
