LASU 28th Convocation: A Celebration of Excellence
Lagos State University (LASU) is set to hold its 28th convocation ceremony, where 192 graduates will be awarded First Class degrees. The announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, during a press briefing at the university’s Senate building.
This year’s convocation marks the VC’s fourth consecutive ceremony in office, showcasing the institution’s commitment to academic excellence.
Breakdown of Graduating Students
A total of 8,711 students will graduate with first degrees, including:
192 First Class Honours
17 Unclassified Degrees (MBBS/BDS)
3,076 Second Class Upper Division
4,397 Second Class Lower Division
990 Third Class
39 Pass Degrees
Top-Performing Graduate: NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL
The best-graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session is NWOSU ISIOMA SYBIL from the Biochemistry Department, with an outstanding CGPA of 4.93 (First Class Honours).
Postgraduate Graduands
Out of 2,235 postgraduate students, the breakdown includes:
302 Postgraduate Diplomas
1,132 Academic Master’s Degrees
639 Professional Master’s Degrees
125 Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degrees
37 Professional Doctoral Degrees
Honorary Doctorate Awards
LASU will confer Honorary Doctorate Degrees on two distinguished Nigerians:
1. Brigadier General Buba Marwa (retd)– Chairman of NDLEA and former Military Governor of Lagos State.
2. Otunba Olufemi Olusegun Pedro – Former Deputy Governor of Lagos State.
Both were recognized for their immense contributions to national development.
Distinguished Professor Recognition
Additionally, Professor Joseph Abayomi Olagunju, a long-serving academic, will be elevated to the prestigious rank of Distinguished Professor.
