The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Kano Zonal Directorate has commenced investigation of two suspects, Abubakar Hussaini and Sahabi Adamu, arrested with $899,800 in counterfeit United States dollars. The suspects were initially intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) along Maiduguri Road, Wudil, Kano State, while traveling to Kila Village in Jigawa State.

Upon search, the NDLEA team discovered the suspected fake notes concealed inside a Maggi Star seasoning carton. The suspects and exhibits were subsequently handed over to the EFCC for further investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that the suspects were transporting the counterfeit currency to meet one Muhammad Walo, who was to introduce them to Mallam Mashiru, a self-proclaimed spiritualist claiming to "transform" counterfeit dollars into genuine currency through ritual prayers.

The EFCC says the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations. The commission is working to unravel the extent of the suspects' involvement in the counterfeit currency racket.
